P0102 Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) Details - 2001 Chevy Venture

General Description: P0102 Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit Low Frequency
Detailed Description:
The MAF sensor frequency signal is less than 1,200 Hz.

Conditions for this code to set:
Ignition voltage is greater than 8 volts, the engine is running, the Idle Air Control (IAC) position is greater than 2 counts. All of these conditions must be present for more than half a second (0.5 sec).

What to check for:
Misrouted wiring harness - Keep wiring away from other signal sources such as ignition wires or coils, solenoids, relays, or coils.
Low air flow to the engine - Check for blocked or collapsed air duct or dirty air filter.
Foreign objects - Something may be blocking the screen of the MAF sensor.
Vacuum leaks - Could be anywhere downstream of the MAF sensor.

Location of main sensor:
The MAF sensor is located in the intake air hose, between the air cleaner and the throttle body.

Notes: The MAF sensor uses a voltage in order to produce a frequency based on air flow through the sensor. The frequency varies from about 2,000 Hertz (at idle) to about 10,000 Hertz (at maximum engine load). If the engine control computer detects a frequency signal lower than the possible range of a normally operating MAF sensor, the P0102 code will be set.

Important Note: Just because a code names a particular sensor, it does not mean that sensor is bad. Proper diagnostic procedures must always be performed to find the cause of the problem
