P0449 Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) Details - 2001 Chevy Venture

General Description: P0449 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent Solenoid Control Circuit
Detailed Description:
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the EVAP vent valve by grounding the control circuit using an internal switch called a "driver". The primary function of the driver is to supply the ground for the controlled component. The PCM monitors the status of the driver, and if the PCM detects an incorrect voltage for the commanded state of the driver, DTC P0449 sets.

Conditions for this code to set:
The engine speed is more than 400 RPM and the system voltage is between 6-18 volts, for a minimum of 5 seconds. Command state (ON or OFF) does not match what was commanded.

What to check for:
This one takes a scan tool that is capable of commanding the vent solenoid open and closed.  Then you need to listen for the valve to make a click sound when it operates.

Location of main sensor:
The EVAP vent solenoid is located above the gas tank.

Notes: Always check for loose wiring or connections, especially if this code is intermittent.

Important Note: Just because a code names a particular sensor or component, it does not mean that sensor or component is bad. Proper diagnostic procedures must always be performed to find the root cause of the problem
