Driver Side Window Switches - 2001 Chevy Venture

There was a post in the automotive forums recently saying that the driver's side power window switches did not operate, but the passenger side switch was working.

Here is some information I gathered about these power window switches from a couple of repair manuals and a picture I took from my own van that shows the power window switch.

Power Window System Controls

Driver Window Operation
  • When the ignition switch is in the RUN or accessory position, or Retained Accessory Power (RAP) is enabled & the driver window switch is pressed in the down position, battery positive voltage is applied to the window motor causing the window to open.
  • When the driver window switch is pressed in the up position, voltage is applied to the window motor in the opposite direction & the window closes.
  • The driver window switch also controls the front passenger window.

Express Down Feature

  • The driver window will go to the fully down position when the driver window switch is pressed past the first detent. Pressing the switch to the up position will cancel this feature.

Front Passenger Window Operation

  • When the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the front passenger window switch is pressed in the down position, voltage is applied to the window motor causing that window to open.
  • When the switch is pressed in the up position, voltage is applied to the window motor in the opposite direction causing that window to close.

Here is the bottom side of the driver's switch panel.
