Leak Diagnosis & Repair Report - September 1-8, 2004

Timeline:
The leak was noticed on the afternoon of August 31, 2004.  (spots found on the driveway)
The van was taken to Chevy dealer on Sept. 1, 2004 at about 8:30 AM. (est. $200)
Called and left message at about 1:30 PM (no word yet).
Got call back about 2:30 PM. - haven't got to it yet.
Got another call about 5:30 PM - Will need steam cleaning & will call warranty company.
Sept. 2, 2004 - Thursday
Dealer talked with Warranty folks (about 10AM).  They want an "inspector" to look at it before OK is given BUT
probably will not be inspected until Friday. Dealer says rental car would be covered by warranty company and
they would probably approve repair except for about $369 (including $150 deductible).
About 2PM dealer called back to say the inspector had already come by & to come get rental car.
I picked up rental car at about 3:45 PM.  Repair is expected to be done by Tuesday evening (Sept. 7).
Sept. 7, 2004 - Tuesday (Monday was Labor Day)
Got a call around 2 PM.  Warranty company is having trouble receiving faxes (needed to send three times) and
is not authorizing payment to dealer yet.  Could be tomorrow before paid (direct to dealer).
Sept. 8, 2004 - Wednesday
Got a call at about 8:15 AM that warranty company had paid and van was ready to be picked up.  I filled the
gas tank on the rental car and arrived a few minutes before 9AM.  I paid my share of expenses and van was pulled
around a few minutes later.  This is when I inspected the engine compartment and noticed some issues. I also
noticed a couple of new symptoms during the day.

My original problem report: (of Sept. 1, 2004 - Mileage = 46,437)
Some fluid leaking onto driveway.
Also, noticed some kind of "buildup" on inside of right-front wheel.

EXTENDED WARRANTY TO PAY FOR RENTAL CHARGES.

Mileage = 46,437 (Still? No test drive?)

Summary:
I believe the dealer did a pretty good job, with the exception of the following:
- Broken Air Filter Cover (replacement ordered and to be installed when it arrives)
- Wire harness not secured (sitting on engine)
- Coolant recovery hose not secured and sitting on front of engine (front of fan)
Two of these were taken care of right away (harness & hose) and the service advisor had a proper level of
concern about these little details being overlooked.

My main concerns are:
- What if I had not decided to look into the engine compartment after the repair or not noticed the problems?
- The transmission now sounds "different" (I can hear it) & shifts "hard"
- The "Service Engine Soon" light is on.
- Was the inside of the right-front wheel inspected before the steam cleaning was done?
From the report it appears that only the inside of the fender was looked at (saw mud).  (I may not have been
clear enough about what I saw and maybe should have shown someone or taken a picture - like these)
- I would have been concerned about the price if I didn't have the extended warranty.  I would have probably
taken it to another repair facility if I didn't have the warranty.
